Are heartworm pills for dogs available with no prescription necessary?

Heartworm pills need to be prescribed by a vet after a blood test is done to ensure the dog is not heartworm positive. Giving pills to a positive dog could kill them. There are some overseas internet site that do sell the pills without prescription. Some vets will honor internet pricing on the medication.

Whether the pills are over the counter or perscribed it is important to give your dog heartworm tablets from spring through fall when there are mosquitoes. Heartworm will eventually kill your dog if not treated. The cost of treating heartworm can be astronomical.

Yes. Heartworm pills are available for purchase at your local veterinary's office. You may also find them online at major pet supply retailers. You'll just need to know the weight of your dog to buy the appropriate pills.

Heartworm medication should always require a prescription from your veterinarian. I would be concerned about purchasing a heartworm medication that did not require a prescription. In addition, dogs and cats should have an annual heartworm test to determine that they are free of heartworms, and should have the test done prior to starting heartworm meds.

Fortunately, you can easily make a trip to the pet store to find heartworm pills for your dog. One of the most popular brand for heartworm protection is Heartgard. These are great and affordable to use to protect your dog from heartworm. If your dog has heartworm, it's a good idea to have a vet prescribe you necessary medication that cannot be found in stores.

You can get them from Canada or a feed store, but giving them to your dog without doing a blood test first could kill your dog.
