While labs are great dogs to own, they are more more for younger people and/or families. Labs are very energetic and love exercising. So unless the older individual or couple owning the lab can keep up with him or her, it isn't the best type of dog.

The average Labradors do not make good pets for the elderly because of their high energy and size, it would be hard for older people to handle. They also tend to have high puppy energy well into their second year. An matured, well trained lab may be more suitable for the average older people.

If the older person himself is in good enough health to care for a lab, they are good. Remember these dogs need a lot of exercise and they are strong.

Oh yes they are gentle and loyal. They do need a lot of exercise so it may help them get out and about more often.

In most cases the answer is no. Labs tend to be very energetic, mouthy and retain many puppy like behaviors well into the ages of 2-3 years old. They also need a rigorous and engaging amount of daily exercise to stay in good physical and mental health.

They are wonderful dogs for older people they are very calm and very dedicated to their owners. And if you can give them a bit of trainin they will also be very helpful to the person that has them as well.
