This varies from person to person, and it also depends upon what you mean by "serious. " It is important to get some experience at casual dating, however.

A serious relationship can start at any age. A serious relationship does not require intimacy and as such may start between two consenting individuals at any time or place be it on a school playground, in a college lecture hall, a job fair, in a retirement village, or a weekly church bingo get together.
