Television has glamorized a number of fields in forensic medicine thus leading tech schools to offer certificates in some of them. A physician who specialized in medical forensics has an undergrad degree, a medical degree and a long residency. Most of the better paying jobs require at least a BS.

Medical forensics is a field that requires extensive medical knowledge. How do you think they would allow you to perform an autopsy without a medical degree? If you have your heart set on the field of forensics i would suggest the regular kind. unlike medical forensics, regular forensics likely only requires the study of criminology.

Yes. Most college's will accept students with a background in biology, anatomy, or chemistry, because those are the primary disciplines they base their work from. The pre-med programs just help you to make sure you have all the relevant coursework completed so you can be successful in the medical forensics program.

No. Medical forensics are harder than patient care. On top of the anatomy and phisology courses you need to know infection control and law.

To get an advanced degree as a medical examiner or other forensic specialist, you won't just need pre-med. You will also need a medical degree.
