Question by  Anjana (40)

Can I take an online permit test to get my learner's driving permit?

It would be a lot easier if I didn't have to go to the testing place.

This would be extremely unlikely. Acquiring a driver's license or learner's permit usually requires presentation of proof of age, legal residency, driver's ed attendence, to a state official.

No you can not. All drivers in question must appear in person to their instructor which usually takes place at the DPS office local to you. I would assume there would be a lot of people taking test for their children and such if you could do them online. A risky endeavor i would say.

Generally speaking, you need to take the test in person so that they can verify that the person receiving the permit is the person who actually took the test. You'll have to check on the policies in your own state to be sure, however.

This answer depends on the state in which you live. Call your local DMV, or check their website online, to see if this is an option offered in your area.
