Novocaine can cause a spasm. It usually does not, but everyone reacts differently to medications including Novocaine. If the spasms continue for more than a few times or are severly bothersome, then contact the doctor or dentist who administered this medication. They may be able to stop the spasms, and this may affect the medications you receive in the future.

Novocaine will not cause a spasm. When novocaine is injected into your mouth the injection site may aggravate the muscles in the temple which is also connected to the mouth.
