Can someone tell me how to read military LES?

There are generally keys (explanations) on the back of the form. If the back is blank you could ask a friend or your bank.

Entitlements are income. BAS=Basic allowance for subsistence (food)(not taxable). BAH: Housing allowance (non-taxable). SGLI=life insurance payment. MGIB=$100 x 12 months Montgomery GI Bill. Several online sites give more details.

PyDate is your entry date, ETS is your current enlistment end-date. BAS is money they give you for food, BAH is money for housing. LeaveBfBal is your Leave balance before the LES was issued, CRBal is what you have after the LES was issued. For more information, contact your Disbursing office, they should fill in any other questions.

On your mypay go to the help section and there will be an example of an les with explanations of what all abbreviations mean.

If you are the military member reading their own LES, then log into the mypay website through the defense finance accounting service and it will tell you block by block what each amount is. For a family member or someone evaluating an LES, do a web search on "how to read a military LES" and click any of the results.

I was in the military for 8 years and still couldn't read one either. I understand your predicament. The best reference is just google with "military les".

If you are trying to read a military LES or Leave and Earnings Statement, you should talk to your personnel department and they will help you out.
