You can not get a tax credit for the VW TDI engine. The VW Jetta TDI engine qualified for a $1,300 federal income tax credit under the Energy Act of 2005. The federal income tax credit program for it ended December 31, 2010.

The 2009 Volkswagen Jetta TDI and Jetta SportWagen TDI comes with a $1,300 tax credit. The clean diesel engine, makes it eligible for an Advanced Lean Burn Technology Motor Vehicle income tax credit. Tax credit is a plus for Diesel averse Americans to consider the Jetta.

This depends on the state you live in and your personal financial situation, but there usually is no tax credit for such engines on a federal level. You may want to ask the store you bought it from or an accountant.
