No, you can't tell under the pajamas.My son has worn them and they are very thin.The protection is excellent.As long as your child is wearing pajama pants, then you cannot tell if he has them on.
For actual aesthetics, I never noticed a difference between Goodnites and underpants. My niece used to wear these and the one telltale sign is a strange, stiff swishy noise.
