Can you trust refurbished electronics?

For the most part you can, but it depends on the original problem. If you can get information about that and what was done to correct it you can form a better opinion about that product. You also need knowledge on frequent problems and how expensive they are to fix.

Most places that sell refurbished items have been check out. They must make sure they are in working order before they leave the store. Sometimes they also have a fair return policy if something goes wrong, within reason of course.

It usually depends on who did the refurbishing, and what is refurbished. The general rule is that if it does not put any plugs out, you can trust on it. If it is dependant on your life, you'd better get a new one.

Refurbs are a toss up. In general, you will be getting a product just as good as a new one, with most carrying a similar warranty. Just be sure to research the company and their history with refurbs; google is your friend.
