According to several sources, it looks like zoysia can grow very well in the shade, as long as there is warm weather.

This is a robust grass that does well in both the shade and sunlight and is good for most warm area climates. It has strong roots and should do very well for you.

Sod farms will tell you that zoysia will grow well in shaded areas. But if its to shaded it will not grow properly. So make sure it does get some sun everyday. Also in cooler environments zoysia will not grow very well. But in a warm climate you should have little to no problem.

Zoysia's actually prefer sun and grow better when they are in direct sunlight, however, they can tolerate shade and work well in the shaded too.
