I personally did not think that The Thing was scary. I have always liked Stephen King's books and films. Being into science fiction, I did not find the movie as scary as some. I was only about 15 when I saw it first, and even then was not scared. The story line was good but not realistic at all.

If this the movie I remember, then it is a very scary movie in my opinion. Being in Antarctica with only few others can be depressive. A UFO in the ice, aliens coming out and inhabiting the human bodies. Then all sorts of mutants. I was seriously scared when I saw it.

Even though I don't consider myself easily scared, I do thing The Thing was suspenseful and high on sci-fi horror, being a big John Carpenter fan.

The movie The Thing was probably meant to be scary but it's actually more comical. If you like old zombie movies with kindof "bad" acting then you'll probably like The Thing.

The 80's horror movie The Thing (starring Kurt Russell), was extremely scary for its time, especially for its computer generated scenes. However, based on today's horror movies, and abilities to create charachters and scenes from computer images, it isn't very scary at all, and almost seems kind of comical in certain scenes.
