Do babies really fight sleep, or does it just appear that way?

A baby doesn't sleep because the tummy is probably bothering him/her or he/she wants comfort like sucking. I don't think they know how to fight sleep yet.

Babies can get over tired the same way your older child would. When they get to that point where they are over tired it can be harder for them to calm down and fall asleep. Try a bath with the calming soap for babies or try rocking your little one in a dark quiet room.

Just like adults, babies have differing individual needs for sleep. Perhaps baby is uncomfortable from hunger, gas or a soiled diaper. Room temperatures can also play a role.

It depends on the baby. Most babies just do not want to be alone so they fight to stay with you.
