Do I have the legal right to my animals' veterinarian records?

I want the records from my vet but he refuses to give them to me.

You have the right to these records since you have paid him for the services that are documented in the file. Some do require a fee the copy the records that you request. If he continues to refuse you the records then contact the state licensing board and file a complaint.

Your vet should have to give you a copy of your pets veterinarian records if you ask for them. Is he refusing because you're trying to switch vets?? I suggest you get legal counsel or advice in order to obtain your pets records and then find a new vet to take your pet to.

If you have paid for the medical treatment, you have the right to the records. He can require a small fee to cover the cost of copying the records, but he cannot with hold them. If this continues, contact the veterinary practice board of his misconduct AND the Better Business Bureau.

As long as it's your animal, you have a legal right in most states to have the records, often for a fee. If they refuse, you can go to court.

If you have ownership of the pet, then yes you have a right to the documentation. Vets are allowed to charge a fee for producing copies.

Unfortunatly, vetinarian records are not clasified the same as human medical records. The laws allow vets to keep your pets medical records if you owe a bill for previous service. However, if you are all clear with the vet, simply have your new vet request the records.
