Do you need to be a U.S. citizen to become a volunteer firefighter in Maryland?

Yes, generally any job associated with the government will require you to have a green card or a US citizenship. Also, If you aren't a citizen I wouldn't suggest applying because of the threat of potential deportation. Of course, it is fair to inquire - I admire volunteer firefighters.

No, you do not. If you are a legal resident, you can become a volunteer firefighter in Maryland. As a legal resident, you can also go through "fire school" to get training as a full fire-fighter.

No, citizenship is not required. You do have to be a legal resident or asylum seeker - not an illegal immigrant. You must also meet physical fitness and linguistic competency (be able to immediately understand instructions in English).
