Does a power nap really help?

Absolutely not. The "feeling" that you have rested is merely a fleeting feeling. Your body does not enter R.E.M. sleep, so you do not truly get any rest.

Almost all the benefits of an afternoon nap are realized right around the sixteenth to twentieth minute of sleep, or right after the body has completely relaxed and most experts agree that any time spent sleeping beyond that are not of any real benefit, and in fact, can interfere with the regular sleep habits.

They actually do help. Though brief, they give both your body and mind a chance to relax which will give you added energy later in the day.
