There are few side-effects reported, which are mild nausea, feeling bloated and upset stomach. People sometimes become sensitive to sunlight, have allergic reactions and high uric levels in their blood. It is also have said to have too high levels of Mercury, but that information hasn't been confirmed. Pregnant women should strictly avoid it as it's not researched enough yet.

In very rare cases chlorella can cause nausea and vomiting, but that would be because of an allergic reaction. There is come evidence to suggest it can cause a rise in uric acid in the blood which in turn is a factor in causing gout.
