Does the sentence, "Would you please be quiet, please?" sound polite to you?

It sounds perfectly acceptable, but if you are in a situation when you have to ask someone that then they are probably not polite anyone so will not respond politely.

It sounds polite in theory, or when written down, but it would depend heavily on the tone and infliction in your voice. Some people are sensitive to such insignificant 'confrontations', and the tone of voice or even the look on your face may have been less then happy, which could have given the impression of complaining rather then requesting.
