Simple monitoring may be all that is required as the cyst may simply resolve on their own. Over-the-counter pain medicine can be taken for mild pain. Steroid injections into the cysts can be helpful if the pain is overwhelming or particularly bothersome. Lastly, the cyst can be removed, although can reoccur if the entire cyst is not removed.

A cyst in the joint can be treated in many ways. If it restricts movement it can be surgically removed but this is extremely invasive surgery and joint surgery always has a long recovery. Unless it causes a lot of pain and loss of range of motion they usually recommend you leave it alone.

Unless it is complicated by its size and bizarre location, a cyst can be easily excised via a small incision.

If you have a cyst in your shoulder joint, a doctor will likely treat the problem by aspirating the cyst with a needle. This will treat the problem by shrinking the cyst and can help with obtaining a diagnosis as the fluid obtained can be analyzed.
