Toddlers love to move their arms around as motion attracts attention. One way to stop the toddler from hitting out is the hold the hands.

Sternly scold the toddler, and let him or her know that hitting is absolutely unacceptable. By raising your voice at the toddler, you are showing him or her that you are in control and that you are not happy. Toddlers generally aim to please, so this scolding will dissuade the toddler from engaging in this behavior again.

If your toddler has begun hitting the best thing to do is to look at your own behavior or the bahavior of others in your home. Chances are a toddler will begin to exhibit this behavior after seeing older siblings hitting each other or after being spanked by a parent.

First of all try and give the child more attention by spending more time by playing or telling stories. Also, try finding out what triggers this behavior.
