There is no substitute. Some vets take installments, or you could surrender your pet to a shelter. Unexpected things hapen, but don't adopt if you're unwiling/unable to pay vet bills.

Do a google search for pet health forums. There are many out there that may have the answer to your questions.

I'm not sure about vet advice but you could try posting questions on sites such as yahoo or here. include as many symtoms as you can.you could also try calling a local clinic and explaining your situation, or even speaking to a nurse there, they might be able to help.

You can call a vet and describe the symptoms of your animal if something is worrying you and see if they will help you over the phone. If the animal is seriously injured or suffering, it's your duty as a pet owner to be able to alleviate a problem.
