There are lots of books with color photos that help in the identification of silver, mostly based on the silversmith's marks and hall marks. The public library is a good place to start your research. There are also websites that offer some information regarding hallmarks for dating and determining the silversmith and/or location of production.

A good site to learn how to identify silver spoons. Also silver collector is another site where you can post a question and get an answer.

First, you could ask people that you know have a good knowledge on silver spoons. You could also look it up on professional (or even amateur) websites. You could even just use your favorite search engine and look up the question. There may be a few misguided answers on there though.

Well, if you want to identify how much they are worth you can go on ebay to check the bid price. Also, if you want to know more about different types, go on wikipedia.

Most silver spoons are manufactured and not home made. With that being said you should be able to look at the back of the spoon and look for manufacturer's marking on it. You can get a book very easily to identify which manufacturer made it, they sell them at many stores.
