Lace is usually either tatted or crocheted. At your local craft shop, you can find instruction books for both methods amnd the supplies that you will need. The advantage of making your own lace is the option to choose the material. Linen lace looks different from silk lace. If you have the time, the result is worth the effort.

Making lace is a very complicated and difficult process where you kind of weave threads around on pins. I would start with something a little less ambitious like a cuff or a collar for a dress.

You can buy lace or learn how to crochet and make your own lace. Handmade lace is beautiful. If you know someone who crochets you might ask them to help.

Lace can be knit, crocheted, or worked on a lace bobbin. Bobbin lace is very time consuming and takes a lot of practice. If you are not already an intermediate-level knitter, I'd stick to crochet lace as the easiest to learn and fastest to do. There are many free patterns and tutorials available online.

Making your own traditional lace by hand is very time-consuming. A good alternative might be a lacy crochet pattern or lace fabric.

lace is made by a process called tatting. There are several kinds of tatting, each with their own kind of supplies. The actual process has similarities to crocheting and needle work, but it much more delicate and intricate. You may want try to find classes, a book or an instructional video as the craft can be difficult to learn

If you want to make lace, then be prepared for a lot of purchasing of materials and spending a lot of time working on it. Making lace is not cheap or quick, so you may be better off just purchasing it already made.
