Avoid entering a room with bright lights. Turn off the lights in the room you are in and lay down. You can hold a cold, damp washcloth over your eyes. Try taking excedrin migrain to prevent an attack from occuring later on in the day. Drink caffeine.

Try exposing yourself to intense stimuli, limit your alcohol intake, get on a regular sleep schedule, learn to manage stress(take a stress management course), exercise and avoid caffeine. Topamax is one of the prescription medicines which has had successful results in preventing and treating migraines. Vitamin B2 and magnesium can help prevent migraines.

One way to prevent a quick, shooting migraine is to know what causes your migraines. Migrains are brought on by different things. Sometimes they can be caused by stress. Avoiding stress would be a step in avoiding migraines. Migraines can also be avoided by eating right and getting enough sleep.

If this is a recurring problem, it may be caused by a magnesium deficiency. It may help to take a daily supplement of magnesium(including calcium for absorbtion).
