Replacing a shower faucet is not a simple job. Hiring a plumber can save you alot of frustration. The shower faucet is set behind the wall of the shower and therefore unaccesable to a wrench or twist off as the shower head is. To save money, pick out a set at a home improvement store and then, call a plumber.

Remove the old fixture, and clean the stem well. Apply teflon plumbers tape to the threads, being sure to wrap in the same direction the new fixture will screw on. This will help keep it tight, as well as making it easy to remove in the future. Then simply screw your new fixture on.

The shower faucet has three main parts: the tub spout, shower head, and pressure/temperature regulator. The tub spout and shower head simply screw on. The mixing valve is behind the handle(in the wall) and requires more detail than I can give in 50 words.

Most shower faucets screw onto the end of a pipe coming out of the wall. The most important thing is to use 2 pipe wrenches, one to hold the pipe to prevent it from turning, and the other to loosen the faucet attachment.

When you replace a shower faucet you just need to take the old one off and install a new one. They are mostly universal unless you are in a really old house. You will need a pipe wrench and also just common wrenches to get it to come off if it is old.

Replacing a shower faucet is easy. You just take the old faucet off with a pipe wrench and then install the new one. Everything screws together so it does not make it completely difficult. You may need to try some heat to get the faucet off but once it is off it is easy.

Unscrew the shower head from the threaded pipe sticking out of the wall. Clean off the threads with a stiff bristled brush, reapply tephlon tape and hand tighten the new shower head by screwing it back on.

You can go to your local hardwood store and find a new shower faucet to install. To install the new shower head, screw off the old one an replace it.
