Bronchitis is a condition that should be diagnosed and treated by a veterinarian. If your dog is coughing, wheezing and/or having problems breathing, take him to his doctor ASAP.

You can tell if your dog has bronchitis if: 1. Has a sudden expiration of air that usually follows an exaggerated effort to breath 2. Makes a lot of noise, but doesn't seem to sneeze 3. A cough or reverse-sneeze

Since just coughing can signal a lot of illnesses, such as kennel cough, you would need to take your dog to the vet for a definitive diagnosis of bronchitis. It is also important to get proper treatment if this is what your dog has.

You really can't without a vet diagnosis. If your dog's hacking, discharge from the eyes and nose, it can be many things. And if it's bronchitis, he needs a vet.

Your dog may have bronchitis if he/she is showing signs of rapid breathing or shortness of breath. Normal respirations for dogs are between 10 and 30 breaths per minute. If your dog is wheezing or gagging he may have bronchitis. Consult your vet for proper treatment.

If your pet coughs or wheezes when exercising or exerting him or herself they might have bronchitis. It is best to have a veterinarian diagnose it though.
