First off, with a deep muscle bruise, please see your physician. This is a very serious injury to your body. Your doctor may give you a prescription for anti-inflammatory medicine. The RICE formula is recommended: Rest, Ice , Compression, Elevation. Watch for hematoma.

Elevate the affected area, if it is a leg bruise, keep off the leg for a day or two. For me, I put tiger balm on my deep muscle bruise and that helped a lot. It also might help to soak in a warm bath for about an hour, a light massage might help, but I wouldn't recommend that.

RICE - rest, ice, compression and elevation. Also, keep moving, but not too aggressively, as movement will help with blood flow and improve the lymphatic system, assisting in the healing process. In addition, ultrasound, massage, heat and gentle stretching will be vital to your recovery.

There are several things to do - take 600 mg of ibuprofen, three times per day for five days, and for more days if you need to. Think of it as an anti-inflammatory, taking down the bruise and swelling, not as a painkiller. Also use ice and reduce the activity that hurts for a few days.

Firstly, if at all possible try not to use the bruised muscle. Muscle cream or rub is easiest for relieving a bruise, frequent icing work well also.
