This is a fairly broad question, because there are so many different types and brands available. I would suggest picking up some How To books, like the "for dummies" series.

You can buy small traps that resemble lobster traps. Or the fun way is to look in a shallow stream, under rocks. Just grab them behind the head.

I use crayfish traps. They're similar to crab traps and they are available at most major Outdoors Outfitters like Scheels or Cabelas. They cost between $4 and $10 per trap. You bait the trap with fish parts (Fresher is better) or store bought crayfish bait, then sit the traps in the water. You'll usually catch more at night.

Usually crayfish is found in lakes or ponds where the water is flowing slowly. All you need is a small cup or any container where it will fit and a stick. If you spot a crayfish, place the cup in front of it but not too close. Then use the stick to guide it into the cup.

It can usually be found in shallow water, like a stream. I would suggest to have a net with you. Drag the net along the water which will catch the crayfish with in it, and store them in a bucket of water.

Crayfish are caught in small versions of crabbing traps using fresh fish or other meat trimmings as bait. They may also be caught by hand near shore with a dip net by leaving bait out or disturbing rocks and scooping them up when they depart from their disturbed hiding places.

I catch them in local rivers and streams. I'll hunker down real low and pick a shallow spot with water running through. Lift up big rocks, carefully so you don't raise too much mud. When I spot one, I quickly grab it behind the head so I don't get pinched.

Gather your fishing materials. Bait can be any kind of meat cut in small pieces. Hot dogs and bacon the best. Bait your line, net or trap and drop it dwon into the water. Leave the bait in the water for thirty minutes. When you pull up theline your crayfish willl come up too.
