FelV is passed by close contact, and has nothing to do with human leukemia. It's passed through saliva, food dishes, biting, litter boxes. There is no excuse for your cat to have it or pass it on, as there is preventative treatment. Cats who are properly vetted and have their shots and treatments will not have or transmit FelV.

My understanding of feline leukemia is that it is the same as people get. There is no cause or reason for getting it in humans that is known, and this is the same with cats. I understand that the treatments of feline leukemia are the same as people as well. Personally I wouldn't put my pet through chemotherapy though.
