Unbeknownst to most homeowners, they don't hold the mineral rights to the land beneath thier homes. If an oil company is drilling beneath your property, the disclosure information is usually found in the County Recorders office. That information is public, and all you have to do is request it and provide the geographical location of your property.

Oil companies have no need or desire to steal oil from individual land owners. If the property you are worried about is close by, obviously all you have to do is have a look. It is impossible to hide oil company activity. If an oil company owns land next to yours, they have probably already looked at the property lines.

Find out if there is an oil well or gas well on surrounding properties with permission for lateral drilling. If so, they can pull minerals from your property as well.
