Use driveshaft and lock washers to fit. Basically lift the car. Rear exhaust should be removed. Then remove the shaft gently. Now fix the new shaft. Exhaust should be reinstalled same as hangers. New gasket can used to avoid leaks. Finally lower the car and make it warm for minute.

Thanks so much for this! I couldn't understand how to use my lock washer to lift the car at first.  add a comment

Typically you need to remove some clips and press a pin out of a couple to install a new flange but it can vary by manufacturer.

you need to take out the U joint on the end of the driveshaft that needs the "flange" replaced. assuming the term flange means were the driveshaft meets the rear

It depends on what your working on. Like a mustang. Unbolt and remove(mark both flang and shaft so counter weight isn't thrown off) and replace it. Make sure it seals.

You will need to be a fairly skilled mechanic with the proper tools to do this type of repair. If you think you can do this repair try searching online auto repair forums. You can find mechanics who will walk you through the detailed process step by step.

This is going to require you to take several steps to replace this specific spot on the vehicle. You are going to need several tools such as a wrench and a lift. After this you are going the ned to spend several hours on this project which could be time consuming.

The driveshaft flange is somewhat of a difficult replacement part as you need to have complete access to the driveshaft. It is very different with each make and model.
