As with any electrical appliance, be sure to unplug before attempting any repairs. Remove the wire screen or gate at the back of the unit, usually on the refrigerator side. You will need screwdriver and possibly instrument to pry the compressor from back of unit, depending on sealant used.

Unless you are licensed and have the tools, you cannot legally do this job. It requires recovering the old freon and recharging the system under a vacuum. This job requires a refrigerant recovery system and a vacuum as well as the freon to do this job. It also includes silver solder of all connections. Hire a professional!

First, make sure the refridgerator is in the off position. Carefully, using a Philips Head screwdriver, remove the original burnt out compressor and dispose of it in the nearest landfill. Next, take the new compressor, and put it in the spot that the old compressor used to be. Now plug it back in.

That is so cute, wish it was that easy. I am a certified CFC repairman. The cost and education to even attempt that repair are enormous-thousands of dollars, liability insurance, etc...Good luck with that magic screwdriver Tommy77  add a comment

This is a process that is way too complicated to be explained on this website. Chances are, you'd spend more money on this process than on a new fridge.

My choice would be to call a repairman, you should have a five year parts and labor warranty on it. There is an excessive failure rate on this part.

If you have a side by side refrigerator and you need to replace the compressor and you do not know how to do it you should call a repairman that is the easiest way to get it done right the first time.

You would start by removing the old compressor. Make sure the unit is not powered. Replace it with the new one and you are done.

You will need to install pressure taps and remove the freon. Once the freon has been claimed, cut the tubing and install the new compressor.
