The story has to be fascinating, worthwhile, riveting and read like fiction. The manuscript has to be perfect and require no editing. The author should have a prepared marketing platform. Publishers no longer have budgets for editors or marketing/advertising, so you must come to the table fully ready to go to print and/or market the work yourself.

Any book, fiction or non-fiction, gets published because a publisher believes it will be a profitable venture. It's about money. Check out the Writer's Market at the library.

Non-fiction (true) books encompass the majority of publishing. Determine what genre your manuscript is: travel, memoir, adventure, crime, etc. Use the Writers Market to determine which publishers are interested in the kind of material you're writing. Follow submission guidelines to the letter and make sure your manuscript is error-free and compliant.

You can get a book called "Writer's Market" available in bookstores that will give you information on this. Submitting a manuscript, or finding an agent, etc.

A writer who does not have an agent who wishes to be published needs to send his manuscript to every publisher and editor he can.

Research each publisher's needs. Several books, including Writers Market, will enable you to learn what publishers want. Next, send out well-written query letters to catch a publisher's eye. Getting published isn't easy; but if you have a product that interests even one publisher, you'll find the effort is rewarding.

You can either self publish it, or try to sell it to publishing house. Write a synopsis of your book and submit it to publishers. You can also include the first 1 to 3 chapters. You will find lists of publishers in the book, "Writer's Market."
