How do you go about wiring a light switch?

A light switch only opens and closes the circuit of the hot wire in the circuit. You place the incoming hot wire(usually black in color) on the bottom brass screw. Then place the outgoing hot wire to the light on the top brass screw. Grounds go to the green screw.

First determine what type of switch you have. Turn off your circuit breaker and then find your power source and wire ground. Connect the wires which will connect to your switch from your power source. Then screw the switch in place and place the cover guard over the switch.
