I don't have the space for these common sense instructions, but both ehow and readers digest online have sensible, easy to follow walkthroughs for you.

To install a metal joist first mark the places where each joist has to be placed then transfer these marking to the beam using a storyboard. The joist hanger must be now placed at the marked space. Insert a scarp of lumber to hold correct opening of each joist hanger. Last step is to nail the joist hanger in place.

You need to measure out the right size hanger for your joists. The hanger will wrap around the joists and have to be nailed down to the wall first.

Make sure you have the appropriate size hanger for your joists. The hanger will wrap around the joist and needs to first be nailed into the house or beam supporting the deck. The hanger than is nailed into the joist. Make sure you use a hanger and nails rated for use in treated lumber.

The joist hanger goes against a ledger board and gets a nail in EVERY hole. Then the joist sits in the hanger and gets nailed on both sides to hanger.
