I think if someone has to ask them self if they are too young to be engaged, then they are too young. I don't believe anyone under 18 should be able to be married, as they are still children, but beyond that it depends from person to person. It's hard to define and anticipate love and maturity.

Ask the couple: where will you live after marriage? How will you support yourselves? What if a pregnancy occurs? No answers or unrealistic answers, they are too immature.

A person must be emotionally ready to get married, in order to get engaged. In Western society today, it is thought that someone should graduate college before they get engaged, or live on their own, or know themselves and what they want, so they get engaged to the right person.

Marriage is a serious thing and one should view it as forever. If there is any doubt, then I would say they are too young. Engaged is different than married. Engagements can last for years, until both parties are ready for marriage, or can be easily broken.

It is a matter of being mature enough for marriage. That person should really know what it means to be in a committed relationship and be ready to give them self to only one person, their new mate, for the rest of their life. Marriage is a very big step and requires a level of maturity to be successful.

Age really is of the mind. Some young people mature much quicker then others in this area. However, you can bet things won't work if they are teenagers, or have been together their entire high school and early adult life. Experience makes us much more stable in relationships.

Some people mature faster than others. So even if they get engaged at a young age they may be able to handle the engagement.

It all depends on maturity. A person at eighteen may be ready and someone else at twenty one may not be. The thing is if you are uncomfortable in the relationship or with telling others about it then you may not be ready for this step yet. Usually people have plenty of time so take it slow.
