You can make a Christmas cactus bloom during the holidays by stopping watering about 1 month ahead of time. This will simulate a dormancy period, and the plant will bud.

Christmas cactus need three things for good bloom. Night time temperature of around 55-60 degrees F, Short days, and a dormant period with reduced water starting in late September. Dormancy should last about two months. The plants should be repotted when they become root bound usually about every three years.
