Acorns come from oak trees. Acorns are ready to collect when plump and their cap comes off easily. Do not let the acorns dry out. The acorns need to be planted in a deep container on their side at a depth 1 1/2 times the width of the acorn.

While planting acorns care should be taken not to dry them or allow them to heat up. So plant it immediately or keep in refrigerator. Plant them in containers having holes at the bottom and place them in loose potting soil. Soil must be moist and aerated. After it grows about a foot, plant them to the ground.

The perfect acorn is picked when they start falling, is plump with an easily removed cap. To keep them cool and damp before planting place in damp peat-moss in refrigerator. Plant in 1 gallon or larger containers as tap root will grow down and keep cool. Plant outdoors in spring.

Do not let them dry out. Keep in shade. Some need to be planted the next spring, so they will need to be stored in damp peat moss. Plant in one gallon pots with a very loose soil. Draining holes should be at the bottom of the container. Plant the acorn on its side and cover with soil. Keep moist.
