How do you remove a red wine stain from carpet?

I accidentally spilled a glass of red wine on my carpet.

Depending on how attacheed you are to your carpet I would suggest simply discarding it. The old wives' tale of countering red wine stains with white wine does actually work, provided the textile is not too clear in color and the white wine in question not oxidized or exposed to much oak.

If the stain is still wet, sponge off the excess with absorbent paper (pat the stain, don't wipe it), then cover the stained area with salt to absorb the wine). Leave the salt until dry, then hoover up. If the stain has dried, you need to use a specialist product.

An effective folk remedy is to use white wine. Simply apply white wine on red wine stain and gently tap/soak until red stain is removed. This procedure may need to be applied more than once to be effective.

What I do is first absorb the maximum of it with paper towel, then I use a Stain remover called "Wine Away", specifically made to remove red wine stains.

You'll need soda water and paper towels. Cover the stain completely with the soda water, then absorb the moisture with paper towels. Repeat until the stain has gone.
