The best way is to quit smoking. Some smokers carry cough drops at all times. The plain old cough syrup might do the trick. If you've been a smoker, it might not be a bad idea to get a check up to make sure there isn't something serious going on.

Smoking cough can be stopped by literally quitting smoking. If you don't quit you will never stop coughing and it might get worse. It needs discipline to quit and some natural ways that may help is exercise, eating fruits and vegetables, avoiding alcohol and caffeine. Hypnosis and aromatherapy may help.

The only way to stop a smoker's cough is to stop smoking. Even then, it will take time for your lungs to fully recover and the cough to completely resolve.

If you are coughing as a result of smoking habits, the only thing you can do is stop smoking and hope that it goes away. If you're lucky and it does, then you should remember that once you go back to smoking, the coughing will come back and it might not go away again.

As a smoker myself, you can only prolong not having a smoker's cough. The lungs were not made to take that much abuse. I would recommend cardio exercise to increase cirrculation, and not using any other chemicals/sprays/cologns, that could cause respiratory irratation.
