The first sign is a prior bladder infection. An untreated bladder infection can cause the crystals to form. He may have problems urinating as well. Make sure he's actually peeing.

wel if your dog is urinating blood or when he is struggling to urinate or when he urinates and there is stil some drops coming out while he is walking then the dog should be look at or even when the dog is vomitting or having a lack of appetite or is not drinking water.
