Get a can of WD-40 from any auto parts store. Spray the WD-40 directly on the rust and let it sit, scrub with a brush to remove the stains.

If there is rust on an iron surface you can soak it for a couple of hours in Coca Cola, it is sure to remove all the rust without any problems at all.

The best way is; equal mixture salt, (abrasive), and vegetable oil. Rub on iron. If this worries you, try just soaking in vinegar for 20 minutes. Wash immediately after.

I would use Lysol, and a sponge since rust is a bacteria it will cut right through it. You just have to be careful and not get carried away. You could also try scrubbing it with salt on a sponge and see it that helps. Either or these methods will take awhile.
