A reciprocating saw has a moving blade. The blade moves forward and backward in relation to the body of the saw. The saw teeth are angled back toward the body, cutting as the blade moves toward the body of the saw. It is a power version of a hand saw.

A reciprocating saw closely imitates the motion of a hand saw. The blade extends out and retracts back along a linear plane. This generic name for this type of power tool is a Sawzall. (Spelling is correct!).
