The creditors will need proof of her passing in order to stop collection efforts. The executor of her estate will disburse assets (if there are any) to take care of the indebtedness. If there are no assets, the debts will be written off.

Creditors, such as credit card companies, are paid out of the estate prior to any distribution to the heirs. What's left can be divided among the heirs.

When the owner of the credit card dies, the estate of the owner is responsible for paying off the balance. The estate can go through probate. In that case the administrator or executor of the owner of the credit card will look at the owners assets, will and debts. No money? No balance will be paid.

Assets are general sold to pay off any outstanding debt. There is a lot of other factors that can come in to play here, like a will or assets exceeding the amount owed or bank accounts that could pay off the debt.
