The results for the Kentucky Derby usually become official after about five minutes as long as there are not any discrepancies. For the owners, the results are not official for about four days, pending results of drug testing. In the case of a foul or use of illegal drugs, a horse might be disqualified.

For the fans the race generally is made official in about 4 minutes unless there is an objection or inquiry which can lengthen that time significantly. For owners the race does not become official for days as the drug test results are not available until then.

Official race results are usually posted within five minutes. Depends on review by stewards to determine if any fouls occurred, and placings are awarded after that. If there was a foul/ incident, jockeys, trainers, and stewards need to discuss the action, and decide on an action and placings from there.
