Paper placemats can be used until they tear or get soiled. When they look bad in some way you'll know when to toss them.

You can use them about 20 times depending on how nice and clean you keep them. Lightly wipe them off with a damp towel, let them dry and reuse. When they start to fray at the ends you can trim the ends until they are too small to use.
