GEICO is an acronym for Government Employees Insurance Company. They were founded in 1936 during the Depression Era. In 1996 GEICO was sold to the Berkshire Hathaway Company.

Geico has been selling automobile insurance for 75 years now. Leo and Lillian Goodwin started the company during the Great Depression. They started as the Government Employees Insurance Company and have kept the same name as GEICO. Their idea was to market automobile insurance to a specific targeted group of people.
