Juniperus procumbens, creeping juniper, needs very little maintenance. Once a year prune back any branches that are out of bounds. Check after each winter for winterkill, and prune out any brown branches. If you see reddish or brownish branches other times of year, either prune them or check to see if your plant has a fungus disease.

This plant can go weeks without water, but watering weekly is best. Be gentle when watering & do so slowly and deeply. You can prune if you'd like, for size control or to remove dead/diseased parts of the plant. You could even prune it into shapes like topiaries!
