How often do ferrets need shots?

In most states, ferrets are required to have a rabies shot. The initial shot is a one year vaccination. After that, shots are good for three years. Your vet can recommend additional shots such as distemper. Other innoculations like kennel cough or lyme vaccine may be recommended if you plan on boarding your pet or taking them outside.

They need their first series of shots when they are young, or when you first get them. This usually comprises of two to three sets. Then they need another set a year later.

Your veterinarian can advise you on the proper sequence and timing of vaccinations for a ferret. If you have started the vaccines, call the vet's office to inquire.
