Working for a security company will expose you to different levels of risk at different work locations; you are likely to work in more than one location. If a company hires its own security, you can gauge the risk based on past crime reports for that location. In general, security guards experience stress, fatigue and boredom more than danger.

In most cases security guard positions are completely safe and rarely place the individual in mortal danger. Some security positions are considered more high risk, such as those at high security installations, but these also carry more pay and benefits. Entry level security positions are generally relatively safe.

Being a security guard means providing safety to others at the expense of your own. But you are all right as long as you deal with difficult people with diplomacy.

It probably depends on the area where you work. If you work in the city, it's probably more dangerous. On the other hand, you would probably be armed with something.
